TH Guard
Proactive Thruster Care
TH Guard is a proactive thruster treatment designed to support low-friction operation, protect critical sealing and contact surfaces, and support long-term seal performance. Once dispersed in the oil system, the PTFE particles are intended to form a low-friction protective layer on loaded surfaces, supporting stable lubrication conditions and reduced wear.
TH Guard is developed for mineral oil-based thruster systems. For thruster systems operating with dedicated gear lubrication, the corresponding Thruster-Gear Guard product is available. The appropriate product is selected according to the system configuration and lubricant in service.

System Compatibility & Blending
TH Guard is developed for selected mineral oil-based thruster lubrication systems. Where the thruster incorporates a dedicated gear lubrication system, the Thruster-Gear platform is used instead. The appropriate product platform is selected based on the actual thruster configuration and lubricant in service.
Suitable System Types
TH Guard can be considered for selected thruster applications, including tunnel thrusters, azimuth thrusters, and other oil-lubricated thruster systems. For applications involving dedicated thruster gear lubrication, the Thruster-Gear range is assessed separately.
Assessment Before Application
Each application is reviewed individually to determine the appropriate Thruster or Thruster-Gear platform and treatment quantity. The existing lubricant, system configuration, oil volume, system condition, and operating conditions are reviewed as part of the Customer System Assessment.

Application Example
Developed for real operating conditions across a wide range of vessel types and sealing systems.
Thruster Guard - Proactive Care for a Harbour Tug
Vessel type: Harbour tug
Thruster type: Tunnel thruster
Thruster oil volume: ~400 L
Observed leakage: Within normal operating range
Scenario
The vessel was operating under stable conditions with no significant leakage. During frequent harbour manoeuvring, the crew observed increased operating temperatures and wanted to reduce friction, protect critical sealing and contact surfaces, and support long-term thruster performance as part of routine maintenance.
Action
Based on the thruster type, oil volume, and operating profile, a proactive treatment was recommended.
Recommended starting point: Thruster Guard
Indicative quantity: ~5 L total
Application
The product was applied during a scheduled service window in port as part of planned maintenance.
Outcome
The thruster system remained stable, with added support for friction control, surface protection, and long-term sealing reliability under frequent manoeuvring conditions.
